Monitoring RAID matrix

Postby grah » Thu Jun 01, 2006 2:32 pm

Is it possible to do?

Since HDD is out of raid, sensors work fine,
when we connect them, then monitor cannot access sensors.

Is there a walkaroud for this?
Cheers

Try to read some docs about RAID!
There is no legal ways to access individual drives when they're joined as RAID.
But, some vendors of RAID controllers have its own proprietary API to do it.
Unfortunately, they support expensive add-on controllers only.

Actually, what he is probably looking for is SAF-TE monitoring support. I would also like to see this capability added. In this configuration, one of the SCSI devices is actually a SAF-TE controller rather than a drive.

The SAF-TE controller can be accessed utilizing the ASPI API which is supported by most controller manufacturers (ie, Adaptec, DPT, etc). There may be other ways of accessing it directly as well, but this is the one I'm familiar with.

If you would like a copy of the spec for communications with a sample SAF-TE device (in my case, the Enlight EN-8721 enclosure) I'd be happy to email it to you.

SAF-TE: SCSI Accessed Fault-Tolerant Enclosures Interface.

So, it is supported for SCSI RAID controllers only.
The first request was related to IDE/SATA RAID.
At present, i do not know any analogue for IDE/SATA RAIDs, sorry.
